Scrum Assessment Discussion > Question about Sprint Burn-Down Chart
My thoughts on this
a) There is nothing wrong... continue to develop without any changes - I chose this one because no other worked for me and was the "least incorrect" one
"continue to develop without any changes" doesn't sound right, 1st because we are at the end of a sprint, and 2nd I would at least raise this in the retro.
b) Product Owner may ask Team to complete all Sprint Backlog Items from Sprint 7 in Sprint 8 based on the Team reestimating incomplete Product Backlog items in Sprint 7 and putting them back into the Product Backlog for reprioritization - I chose this one and was correct
c) Team will carry over incomplete Sprint Backlog items from Sprint 7 to Sprint 8 and monitor Sprint 8 Burn-Down Chart and as soon as deviation from trends is detected, Team will work with Product Owner to negotiate remaining work - I think this one isn't correct, because the team shouldn't carry over work from one sprint to another without checking it with the Product Owner before
The sprint burn down chart is showing remaining work in the sprint backlog.
Remaining work are tasks to complete the committed user stories and additional tasks that came up during the sprint and that the team decided to do in the current sprint. That means the team could have completed all user stories, but has some additional tasks left open.
I would speak in the retro about what went wrong with these tasks and I would see if we can solve this tasks in the next sprint and just move them from Sprint 7 to Sprint 8. Otherwise let the Product owner know.
d) Team will commit to fewer Product Backlog items in Sprint 8 - I think this one isn't correct, because the size of the Product Backlog items is variable, and in fact you can commit to less work even when committing to more Product Backlog items, depending on the size of them
I think you are right about number of items
e) Project Manager will add additional developers for Sprint 8 - I think this one isn't correct for obvious reasons
Changes to the team is not a good solution
f) Stakeholders will encourage team to do better estimates during Sprint 8 Planning Meeting - I think this one isn't correct because the Team acts on its own, and shouldn't be encouraged by stakeholders
Agree

If the Team is pretty new, product backlog items will vary all over the place in size. However, as the Team uses Scrum more and more, the size of the Product Backlog items tends to normalize. The correct second answer is select fewer product backlog items, but you are correct is saying that they may vary all over the place. I will change the wording to reflect your observations.

During my PSD assessment I got (and failed) a question where a Sprint Burn-Down Chart is displayed. The Burn-Down shows that the team left some incomplete tasks at the end of sprint. The available answers are (you had to choose two of them):
a) There is nothing wrong... continue to develop without any changes - I chose this one because no other worked for me and was the "least incorrect" one
b) Product Owner may ask Team to complete all Sprint Backlog Items from Sprint 7 in Sprint 8 based on the Team reestimating incomplete Product Backlog items in Sprint 7 and putting them back into the Product Backlog for reprioritization - I chose this one and was correct
c) Team will carry over incomplete Sprint Backlog items from Sprint 7 to Sprint 8 and monitor Sprint 8 Burn-Down Chart and as soon as deviation from trends is detected, Team will work with Product Owner to negotiate remaining work - I think this one isn't correct, because the team shouldn't carry over work from one sprint to another without checking it with the Product Owner before
d) Team will commit to fewer Product Backlog items in Sprint 8 - I think this one isn't correct, because the size of the Product Backlog items is variable, and in fact you can commit to less work even when committing to more Product Backlog items, depending on the size of them
e) Project Manager will add additional developers for Sprint 8 - I think this one isn't correct for obvious reasons
f) Stakeholders will encourage team to do better estimates during Sprint 8 Planning Meeting - I think this one isn't correct because the Team acts on its own, and shouldn't be encouraged by stakeholders
So I can't find out two correct answers to this, but only one. What are your thoughts?
Best regards
