Sprint Review: formal or informal?

Here's something interesting I found in the Scrum Guide:
"Scrum prescribes four FORMAL events for inspection and adaptation, as described in the Scrum Events section of this document:
Sprint Planning
Daily Scrum
Sprint Review
Sprint Retrospective"
"Other than the Sprint itself, which is a container for all other events, each event in Scrum is a FORMAL opportunity to inspect and adapt something."
"Sprint Review (...) This is an INFORMAL meeting, not a status meeting, and the presentation of the Increment is intended to elicit feedback and foster collaboration."
So... Sprint Review is a formal event but an informal meeting. How does that work? What's the difference between a meeting and an event?
It's a formal event because Scrum makes explicit provision for it, even though there's nothing to stop teams from having informal reviews as well.
It's an informal meeting in the sense that any barriers of formality which might impede the review's effectiveness are removed.
