Hello, Community!

As a person who aspires to become a useful SM I read different dev forums to understand from their perspective how can an SM be helpful (apart from what I already know form Scrum Guide and other books). What I often read is surprising. An absolute majority of Devs, Team leads, company CEOs say that Scrum Masters are completely useless unless they have technical expertise and efficiency of SCRUM framework is doubtful. I tried to ask what lead to that conclusion, but as usual (for many forums) no helpful comments just a lot of not funny jokes. So, I ask an experienced Scrum Community. Why there is skepticism, even negativity sometimes towards SMs and what should a SM understand, know and be able to do to break this wall of skepticism (apart from obvious things and theory of Scrum itself of course).

Thank you!

Have you read the Scrum.org origins story?

http://www.scrum.org/About/Origins

This may help explain why skepticism and negativity towards Scrum is so often encountered, and what might be done about it.

Helpful as usual.
