About Chuck
Hi, I'm Dr. Chuck. I am a former steward of the Professional Scrum Product Owner course and can teach nearly all of the Scrum.org course catalog. I've been a Professional Scrum Trainer for over 12 years and actively teach multiple private and public classes every month. I live in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Teaching philosophy:
No nonsense. No condescension. Real-world learning guided by an industry expert and empowered by experienced professionals.
I don’t post dozens of classes only to cancel the ones with low enrollment. When you register for one of my sessions, you can count on it running as scheduled—because your time and commitment deserve that respect.
I also don’t rely on gimmicks—no Legos, marshmallow towers, paper airplanes, or pickles. My classes are engaging and energetic, but they’re built for professionals. We tackle complex, authentic exercises that reflect the realities of product development.
I view every student as an intelligent peer who brings valuable experience and creativity to the discussion, and I design each session to respect—and build upon—their insight.
In my classes, you won’t just learn how Scrum works—you’ll learn why it works. By shifting the way you think about work itself, you’ll gain the ability to apply Scrum with purpose, not just by rote, and achieve meaningful, lasting improvement.
I don’t guarantee that everyone will pass the Scrum.org assessment—and that’s intentional. The exam is challenging, as it should be, and success reflects true mastery. My goal isn’t to run a certification factory; it’s to develop deep, thoughtful practitioners who understand why Scrum works and can apply its principles effectively in the real world.I have over 30 years of experience in education and software. I have taught nearly 5,000 students in Professional Scrum classes and hundreds of students in noncertified classes ranging from highly technical programming classes to executive classes on process engineering. I have a solid reputation for satisfying students by breaking down complicated concepts into relatable analogies. I've been referred to as an agile expert by my students and peers alike.
Background:
Not only do I teach but I consult with a variety of large organizations. I focus on helping organizations realize the benefits of agile principles and practices through better business and IT alignment.
I'm a computer scientist with a doctorate degree from Colorado Technical University, a master's degree from Cleveland State University, and a bachelor's degree from Edinboro University. Additionally I hold over 20 industry related certifications. I previously worked as a full-time professor at Colorado State University and frequently work as an adjunct professor at various universities. I frequently publish academically and speak at numerous conferences.
