Introduction
This 1-day skills course on product discovery and validation offers hands-on training to participants, enabling them to enhance value creation through practical application of discovery and validation skills in product development. The course covers not only greenfield scenarios but also the enhancement of existing products.
Course Description
In this skills class, students will leverage an ongoing case study as a way of applying techniques learned throughout the class and preparing to take what they learn back to their workplace. This course is designed for Product Owners and product teams to enable them to better incorporate discovery and validation into their product development process.
Product discovery and validation focuses the team toward achieving customer outcomes and company impacts. Teams learn how to drive the design together with delivery in short, iterative cycles to assess what works best for the business and the user.
Leveraging product discovery and validation techniques, the course takes a user-centric approach, illustrating how this comes together with development and delivery. Students learn how discovery, delivery, and validation fit together to lead to an end-to-end empirical approach to product development.
Learning Objectives
- Position your product to better fit the needs of your users by understanding the market
- Experiment deliberately by clarifying your assumptions and quantitatively testing them
- Manage risk by validating sooner rather than later and maximizing the amount of work not done
- Use empiricism to refine and discover paths to value iteratively and incrementally

Jeff Bubolz
I am a speaker, trainer, and agile coach. I have been a Product Owner, Scrum Master and Development Team member. I have worked with enterprise companies to small start-ups. While working with many teams across many companies I have found that most problems are not technology problems, but are organizational structure, process, and people problems. As a trainer I bring storytelling, a broad array of experience, and collaborative approach to teaching.
I take a practical approach to teaching and coaching organizations how to respond to change and gain organizational agility. I love teaching and using Scrum, but use many other tools in the agile toolbox when the situation calls for it.
