Class Overview

Scrum.org's Professional Scrum Master (PSM) course provides advanced training on Scrum principles, the Scrum Framework as defined in the Scrum Guide and servant leadership.

The PSM course was initially designed by Ken Schwaber, co-creator of Scrum, in 2009 as a significant update to the Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) course that Ken developed with the Scrum Alliance back in 2002.  

Since 2009, the PSM course has been maintained and enhanced by Scrum.org and its global group of 160+ Professional Scrum Trainers, where it has evolved into the industry’s highest quality and most consistently delivered Scrum Master training.

Who Should Attend?

The Professional Scrum Master (PSM) course is for anyone involved in software development using the Scrum Framework as defined in the Scrum Guide

It is particularly beneficial for any of the following people:

  • IT stakeholders
  • Dedicated to optimizing the value of software delivery
  • Have software development responsibilities
  • Serve in the role of Scrum Master or member of a Scrum Team.

Learning Objectives

  • Gain a clear understanding of Scrum and the Scrum Framework as defined in the Scrum Guide.
  • Serve as a Scrum Master for Scrum Teams and stakeholders from an in-depth understanding of servant-leadership.
  • Start effectively using Scrum and/or increase the effectiveness of Scrum currently underway.

Assessment & Certification

All participants completing the Professional Scrum Master course will receive credentials to attempt the PSM I assessment, and are also entitled to a discount on the PSM II assessment. The industry-recognized PSM certifications require a minimum passing score on these rigorous assessments.

PDU Credits

Students of Scrum.org courses are able to claim Project Management Institute (PMI) PDU credit: 14 PDUs after attending the two-day Professional Scrum Master (PSM) course. Please note that PMI PDUs are earned for course attendance and not for passing a Scrum.org assessment. Students can claim PDUs under PMI’s "Education courses provided by other third party providers” category. You can claim your PDUs here.
