Scrum does not specify how requirements are captured. User Stories came from eXtreme Programming (XP) and are indeed popular. Perhaps we can take a trip down memory lane and dwell more on where these came from...?

There are other product backlog items that can be used as well as models outside of INVEST. Scrum, being a framework, does allow for this.
