Hi,

I couldn't find "Velocity" in the Scrum guid anymore. Is "Velocity" still a part of the scrum framework? If not, can we still use velocity according to scrum?

The Scrum Guide says: "the more the Developers know about their past performance, their upcoming capacity, and their Definition of Done, the more confident they will be in their Sprint forecasts".

Velocity is the rate at which work is Done, and as such it may be a useful indicator of past performance.

Hi Mahir,

You are correct in that Velocity is not part of the Scrum framework.

In addition to what Ian provided, you can find a brief description in the Scrum Glossary

Velocity: an optional, but often used, indication of the amount of Product Backlog turned into an Increment of product during a Sprint by a Scrum Team, tracked by the Developers for use within the Scrum Team.

There is nothing saying you can't use it as a complimentary practice.

That said, I think it is worth noting "indication" and "indicator" in both the glossary and Ian's response. Using velocity for anything more than an indicator of past performance can be problematic.
