A Scrum Master does not remove impediments.  According to the Scrum Guide, a Scrum Master

Causing the removal of impediments to the Scrum Team’s progress;

I have only been "credited" with removal of 1 impediment for a team that I was involved with as a Scrum Master.  That impediment was getting Admin access to their laptops so that they could modify configurations and install applications.  I worked with the Developers to write up the justification and filed a ticket with our Compliance group.  I didn't actually remove the impediment, I facilitated the removal.  But since my name was on the ticket I was "credited" with the removal.

Scrum Masters "cause" removal of impediments.  In my interpretation of that phrase, it is facilitating the work to remove impediments.  I help the team arrive at a statement that shows the impediments impact. That can be by asking questions to provoke thought or being the scribe as the team dictates.  I help the team determine who can actually remove the impediment and will facilitate connections if necessary. But rarely is there something that I can personally do to remove an impediment because Scrum Masters do not have authority.
