Hi all,

I have a question while preparing for the PSM certification. Does the scrum master need to attend or participate in the Sprint Planning or Sprint Review meetings? Unable to find a definitive answer.

Thanks,

Vijay

The role of the scrum master is clearly defined in the scrum Guide --

Sprint Planning/Sprint Review The Scrum Master ensures that the event takes place and that attendants understand its purpose. The Scrum Master teaches the Scrum Team to keep it within the time-box.

Your questions are unambiguously answered in the Scrum Guide:

  • "The work to be performed in the Sprint is planned at the Sprint Planning. This plan is created by the collaborative work of the entire Scrum Team."
  • "The Sprint Review includes the following elements: Attendees include the Scrum Team and key stakeholders invited by the Product Owner [...]

  • "The Scrum Team consists of a Product Owner, the Development Team, and a Scrum Master."
