Certificates are always a nice little debate; are they needed? Should you get one as a Scrum Master? Does it make you better at your job? This is a wonderful question for Professional Scrum Trainers like Evelien and yours truly to answer.
No, I think the certs are being used as gatekeepers right now and are eliminating good SMs from getting forward in the market and in getting new jobs. So many companies are using it as a crutch to hiring rather than getting to grips with Agile and knowing what to ask and for what to listen. This needs to stop or we will be locking competent folks out of the market.
