YDS: Where Does a Business Analyst Fit on a Scrum Team?

February 26, 2021

On today’s episode of YOUR DAILY SCRUM: Where Does a Business Analyst Fit on a Scrum Team? We get this question pretty often, especially when speaking at conferences: I'm a business analyst at a company that just adopted Scrum, am I now out of a job? The quick answer is: Of course not, but there are likely some changes coming your way. Ryan and Todd take the question head-on in today's video.

Ryan Ripley and Todd Miller are the author of Fixing Your Scrum: Practical Solutions to Common Scrum Problems. They are the co-founders of Agile for Humans, the premiere Scrum and Kanban training organization.

Hi, my concern would be related to BA responsibilities. The BA is
responsible for bridging the gap between IT and the business using data
analytics to assess processes, determine requirements and deliver
data-driven recommendations and reports to executives and stakeholders.
Being part of the Team, the BA wouldn't be losing his main purpose cause
that's the PO attribution.

So, what is left for him as being part of the Team, wouldn't undermine his confidence and morals?
Wouldn't be better to split the product into some areas and let him be
the owner of one of them as a second PO? In my point of a view this
would bet a better fit for his skills.
