About Joanna
Many teams turn to Scrum hoping for faster delivery, clearer priorities and better collaboration. What they often discover instead are overloaded backlogs, misunderstood roles, events that feel like pointless meetings rather than valuable conversations, and organizational structures that quietly pull them back into old ineffective patterns.
I help teams and leaders bridge that gap between Scrum-as-intended and Scrum-as-experienced.
I have a Ph.D. in Control Engineering & Robotics and over 15 years of experience across IT, telecommunications, banking, academia and robotics. I combine scientific thinking with a deeply human-centered approach to learning, leadership and product development. I’m a Professional Scrum Trainer, an Agile Kata trainer, Certified Action Learning Coach, OKR Coach, and a Team Psychological Safety expert.
The problems I help you solve
Organizations usually invite me when:
- You have Scrum in place, but priorities constantly shift and focus is impossible.
- The backlog is big, busy and overwhelming, with no clear Product Goal or strategy.
- People attend Scrum events but don’t understand their purpose — everything feels like a pointless ceremony, not a catalyst for value.
- Product Owners face competing stakeholders, unclear requirements and pressure to deliver everything.
- Leadership wants agility but operates with waterfall structures, functional silos and command-and-control habits.
- Teams don’t feel safe to speak up, challenge decisions or experiment, so improvement stalls.
- OKRs exist on slides, but don’t guide daily work or Sprint Goals.
How I help
My work is practical, experiential and rooted in real challenges — not theoretical exercises.
- Scrum that delivers
I help teams achieve consistent increments of value through clearer goals, smaller bets, and strong Done practices.
- Teams that learn
Using Agile Kata and Action Learning, teams develop the habits of continuous improvement, real inspection and thoughtful adaptation.
- Outcomes that matter
I connect OKRs to product thinking and day-to-day decisions so teams know what matters, why it matters and how to measure progress.
- Psychological safety as a foundation
I help organizations build environments where people can raise concerns early, explore ideas openly and collaborate honestly.
- Hypothesis-driven & scientific thinking
Inspired by my engineering background, I help teams reduce risk by running experiments instead of relying on assumptions.
- Modern skills, including AI literacy
I teach Scrum Masters, Product Owners and leaders how to use AI as a thinking partner, accelerating clarity, learning and decision-making.
My mission is to help organizations create systems where good results become repeatable — because when teams understand their goals, feel safe to collaborate, and work in short learning cycles, everything changes.
If your Scrum feels heavy, misunderstood or stuck, I’d be glad to support you in turning it into a way of working that is focused, human and truly effective.

PSM1 Course
Throughout the two day interactive class, Joanna helped to bust the myths around scrum framework. We discussed how best to apply the framework to different hypothetical situations, whilst also bringing our own experiences and questions to the team. Really interactive and engaging couple of days, with lots of tips and tricks along the way!

The training exceeded my expections in many ways. The pre training experience was great - registration, available information and communication was great. Technically, it was very easy to connect and experience the training.
The trainer - Joanna, is outstanding. Lively, energetic, very smart, explains the concepts clearly, talks concisely and directly. There was great balance between theory, interactive exercises and real life examples. I feel motivated to try out new approaches and share knowledge within my company. I feel well prepared for the exams. Joanna mentioned other courses and send useful materials at the end.

One of the best learning experiences…
One of the best learning experiences I've had. The course was spread over a few consecutive weeks, giving us a chance to reflect about what we have learned. The teacher (Joanna) was guiding us through the material, asking meaningful questions and sharing real life stories that made me remember the theory even better. The class was conducted in a pleasant pace and Joanna made sure we understand everything well. Bonus coaching and collaboration sessions were provided for free. I can only recommend.

The PSK course - Shows how Kanban techniques can improve the way you do Scrum
The PSK course was really useful and our trainer was well organised, running perfectly to time. Everything in the course was really useful and I will be applying what I learned. Whenever we had a question our trainer encouraged us to discuss it to see if we could answer it for ourselves but in any event was always able to give us a good answer. I would recommend this to anyone using Scrum

Knowledgeable trainer
What I like about Joanna is her way of asking right questions instead of giving out the answer. This helps me to relate things I already know or improve the understanding of concepts that are new to me. She is an active listener and I never felt rushing or skipping any topic throughout the course. Thank you Joanna for a great training session on PSK1.

I appreciated being Joanna Płaskonka's Scrum student!
You can tell that Joanna Płaskonka is very knowledgeable in and outside of things pertaining to Scrum and she does well in explaining and simplifying what she knows. She uses interactives to help you understand and gives plenty of real life examples and experiences to help you put all the pieces together. She's very genuine and empathetic, willing to assist, and respectful to everyone. I truly enjoyed being a student of hers.
Now this class style did not feel like it was structured to take organized and progressive notes through each part of scrum. If you appreciate that learning style like I do, you will notices its absence. So, it will still be heavily necessary for you to use other Scrum materials to study and pass the exam. But the explanations and experiences that Joanna shares are a nice addition to these materials.

Valuable training when changing my business role
After over 11 years of work as a frontend developer, I decided to try myself as an Engineering Manager. Therefore, I needed to raise and organize my knowledge of Agile and Scrum, so I was looking for PSM I training.
I came across Joanna Płaskonka and I do not regret any time spent on this two-day training.
Joanna Płaskonka has deep understanding of the theory and a lot of years of experience in practice. She is a great teacher with knowledge sharing, facilitation and engaging people skills.
Training with Joanna Płaskonka was top notch, interesting all the time. Most importantly, it gave me the answers I was looking for, fully exceeded my expectations and clarified my knowledge about Scrum Pillars, Values and Principles.
Joanna, apart from PSM I training, also conducts other trainings. I will definitely come back to her to deepen my knowledge even more.
Thank you Asia!

Great and practical experience
Asia's classes are a both a great way to start your journey with Scrum, as well as further extend your basic experience with it. I've attended PSM level 1 class after having limited experience with Scrum in my workplace. The class covered theory which is required for PSM certification, but we've also worked on real life examples that allowed us to apply it. Asia created an environment in which all attendees were able to share their experiences and discuss their own cases, which was super useful and more interesting that standard examples. At the end of the day the class allowed me to not only pass the certification, but to actually use the information in my every day work. I feel like I have a better understanding of what's Scrum is really about, I work better with the framework itself now (sometimes maybe also illegally use only elements of it) and I'm able to support others in this on a day-to-day basis.

Many leaders assume that psychological safety only thrives in democratic workplaces where challenging a manager is socially acceptable. But research shows something far more interesting. Psychological safety is not a democratic phenomenon. It is a human one. People everywhere want to prevent mistakes, ask for help, and contribute ideas. The difference lies not in the need, but the way that safety is expressed.
The article explains that psychological safety does not promote repeated avoidable mistakes but instead fosters transparency, learning, and responsible professional behavior. It highlights that teams with high psychological safety are more likely to openly discuss errors, leading to meaningful improvements rather than hidden issues.
