Introduction

Joining a team can be exciting and sometimes a bit daunting at the same time, especially when you join the team as a Scrum Master, because you are responsible for helping the team and organization be effective at delivering value. In addition to developing your skills, Scrum knowledge, techniques and experience, getting to know the people you will be working with is essential for building a trustworthy relationship, increasing transparency and understanding where you can help the team and organization improve.

Aside from learning about the people you will be working with, it is also important to familiarize yourself with the team's current ways of working and practices, as well as any challenges or roadblocks they may be facing. There are several ways that you can work with the team to identify areas for improvement and carry out experiments to learn how to help the team be more effective.

As you work on settling into your new team, it can take time to familiarize yourself with your new environment. To help get you started, here are questions you may have and ideas to consider when you join a new team as a Scrum Master.
