Maintaining the value and integrity of the Certification Tests
In our ongoing efforts to maintain the value and integrity of the Scrum.org certifications, we are beginning experimentation with additional measures to prevent cheating.
In early May 2025 we made a change to all of the Open Assessments. The change is a simple one. Once you have started the test it will open “full screen” and you will be required to maintain your focus on the testing application. If you switch to another window or application or move to another connected screen, you will be required to acknowledge that you left the testing environment before you can resume the test. The timer does not pause if you change to another window, application, or screen.
You can have paper copies of reference material available, but consider that consulting reference material during the test might make it difficult to complete the test during the timebox.
As we run this experiment and give our customers a chance to provide feedback and adjust to these changes, we will progressively become more restrictive, to the point where the test might be marked as completed if you navigate away from the testing environment once the timer has started.
Our goal is to keep the testing process fair and accessible to people around the globe, while deterring efforts to simply apply AI or other tooling to answer the questions. In this context accessible means both within reach from a cost perspective and available regardless of your geographic location. We do not plan to change to a model that requires in-person testing.
The restrictions on the Certification Tests (PSM I, PSPO I, etc.) are unchanged. We plan to experiment with the Open Tests - though you can expect that eventually what we apply to the Open Tests will be applied to the Certification Tests.
We are experimenting with different scenarios and restrictions, rather than implementing them all at once, and we welcome your feedback so that we can inspect and adapt.
