AI is rapidly transforming the role of Product Owners, demanding new skills to stay relevant.
As AI systems become increasingly powerful, capable of automating data analysis, generating insights, and even contributing to product discovery and design, a Product Owner's value proposition is shifting from its traditional definition to a completely new level, where Product Owners, like an orchestra conductor, leverage AI to create better and more successful products.
Those who fail to upskill and integrate AI into their product management practices soon will be suffering from the following four risks:
1- Becoming an outdated Product Owner: With the advent of AI, the way of product management is changing. So, if you don’t adapt yourself to it, you risk becoming obsolete, ultimately losing your relevance in an increasingly AI-centric product world.
2- Losing a great collaborative partner: If you close your eyes to AI potentials, you are losing a knowledgeable colleague which can effectively help you with brainstorming new ideas, stakeholder feedback analysis, sentiment monitoring, making data-driven decisions, generating insights, analyzing data and market trends, and many more.
3- Not using your time effectively: While AI can take over repetitive tasks in a perfect way with much higher speed and quality than us, and free your time to focus on strategic and high-impact work, if you don’t use it, you are wasting your time without any doubt. It is like using horses for transportation in a time when cars are available.
4- Less chance to build the right product: Product Owners must ensure they build the right product, and AI is a game-changer in achieving this. It enhances customer understanding, accelerates product discovery, enables rapid prototyping, and extracts actionable market insights, boosting your chances of building the right product. Ignoring AI means losing this competitive advantage.

Now that you see the risks, you’re probably asking: What should I do?!
Fortunately, Scrum.org has recently designed and launched a new one-day course called Professional Scrum Product Owner – AI Essentials (PSPO-AI Essentials), helping product people to transform from a traditional into the next-gen AI-powered Product Pros.
In this course, you will navigate various stances of a Product Owner and do a lot of practical hands-on exercises to learn how to leverage AI in your product management work. This course includes seven sections as follows:
Section 1: The Visionary Product Owner
In this section, you learn how to communicate the product's future strategies more effectively with the power of AI. Make your product vision, goal, and roadmap ideas tangible and particularly how to create your own AI avatar, helping you create your product ownership messages faster and more impactful.
Section 2: The Customer Representative
Where you learn how to leverage AI to better understand customer problems, pain points, and potential opportunities, enhance your product discovery process, and do a practical exercise in class by creating a sample User Persona with an AI tool.
Section 3: The Experimenter
Leverage AI to brainstorm and generate innovative ideas to experiment with. Create robust test hypotheses with the power of AI, and do a practical exercise in class by creating a mock-up website in a few minutes with a great AI tool.
Section 4: The Decision Maker
Learn to make more effective decisions to manage your Product Backlog with the help of AI as your new knowledgeable assistant.
Section 5: The Collaborator & Influencer
Leverage AI to run more productive customer interviews, transcribe meetings, extract action items, and do sentiment analysis. In addition, do a practical exercise by building an App to collect and manage stakeholders’ requests in a categorized, trackable, and ordered style.
Section 6: The Orchestrator
Learn AI fundamentals and extend the number of AI tools you know to be able to select the best AI tools suitable for your context. Then, learn how to setup and configure AI tools. At the end, do a practical exercise in class by building an AI Agent to review user feedback, recognize recurring problems, and create draft user stories for your Product Backlog.
Section 7: AI Theory, Ethics, and Security
In this section, you lay down your general knowledge of AI, like the history of AI and its variants (ANI, Generative AI, AGI), understanding AI models like LLM and Diffusion Model, navigating various ways of training AI models, learning Prompt Engineering and Tokenization, and how to write effective prompts.
More than that, you don’t want to blindly use and trust AI. The wise use of AI comes from awareness. So, in this part, you will get familiar with the Responsible AI concept, how to use it ethically, and the related considerations like security, data privacy, and so on.
This class can open new doorways to the amazing world of AI.
PSPO-AI Essentials class participants will have two attempts for its exam included in the class fee to get the PSPO-AI Essentials certificate. (All participants completing the Professional Scrum Product Owner-AI Essentials course receive a password to take the PSPO-AI Essentials certification test. Class participants of official Scrum.org classes who attempt the PSPO-AI Essentials assessment within 14 days of receiving their free password and do not pass will be granted a second attempt at no additional cost.)
In addition, it would be completely interactive and discovery-based with tens of practical exercises.
Although the main focus of this class is on Product Owners, anyone else involved in product management can benefit from the same concepts to uplift their AI knowledge and shine.
So, join this class and migrate to the next generation of AI-powered Product Owners.
Bear in mind that the Product Owner of tomorrow masters AI, and this training ensures you are prepared for that future.
