Scrum.org Announces New Training Course: Professional Scrum Product Backlog Management Skills™

September 27, 2023

New training course helps Scrum practitioners improve their ability to manage all aspects of the Product Backlog

PSPBM SkilsBoston, September 27, 2023 -Professional Scrum Product Backlog Management Skills™ training course. In this new skills-building course, participants will learn techniques and methods to effectively manage a Product Backlog and deliver valuable products to delight stakeholders and customers. This new course is part of a growing series of skills-based courses which most recently added the Professional Scrum Facilitation Skills™ course.

A Product Backlog is the single source of work undertaken by the Scrum Team. The list of Product Backlog items is ordered and as teams work and learn, new requirements may emerge, others may be refined, removed or reprioritized.  Managing the Product Backlog requires several important skills for Scrum Teams to achieve their goals. This new course focuses on those skills including:

  • Applying practical techniques to create, refine and order the Product Backlog
  • Identifying and effectively communicating with stakeholders
  • Capturing stakeholders’ needs on a Product Backlog
  • Finding better ways to make the Product Backlog more transparent
  • Using empiricism as a competitive advantage

“With Scrum, the main goal is to deliver value and a well defined, yet evolving Product Backlog is critical to achieving this,” said Dave West, CEO, Scrum.org. “As Agile adoption continues to mature, it is important for practitioners to focus on improving their skills in order to continue their growth and ability to accomplish their work. I am excited to see how this new course helps Product Owners and Scrum Team members better manage their Product Backlogs and provide greater value to their stakeholders and customers.”

PSPBM Skills is designed for Product Owners who are looking for practical ways to manage a Product Backlog and engage with stakeholders. It is also useful for a range of roles involved in agile development and product management such as those interested in learning essential Product Owner practices, Scrum Masters wishing to be an effective coach to Product Owners, or product managers and business analysts looking to improve their skills.

"The Professional Scrum Product Backlog Management Skills course is engaging, interactive, and practical. The activities throughout the class are designed to develop real-world application skills, including very realistic discussion scenarios," said Megan Pfaffenberger, PSPBM Skills Student. "Complex concepts were broken down into clear action items rather than solely focusing on the theory and I left with several takeaways to help improve transparency within my Product Backlog. I highly recommend this course to anyone looking to enhance their knowledge of product management!"

PSPBM Skills classes are currently open for registration and more will be listed in the coming weeks. Private classes for organizations are available by contacting a Professional Scrum Trainer. All participants who complete this course will receive a password to attempt the PSPBM Skills certification test.
