What is a Scrum Master?

A Scrum Master is the member of the Scrum Team that is accountable for the Scrum Team’s effectiveness and for establishing Scrum as it is defined in the Scrum Guide.

They help the team improve their practices and effectiveness primarily by advancing the adoption of Scrum among individuals, teams and organizations. However, Scrum Masters go beyond simply teaching others about the Scrum framework. They help others understand Scrum theory, the purpose of each element of Scrum and why Scrum is beneficial in helping the team deliver value. Understanding the “why” behind the elements of the Scrum framework helps teams evolve from a mechanical use of Scrum to Professional Scrum.

Excellent Scrum Masters help their teams deliver value. They can help transform a team that struggles, into a team that delivers value every Sprint.
