Hi,

Got the below question while learning SPS Nexus Framework. Could you please share your expert thoughts on this.

  1.  How should the "Nexus Integration Team" help the scrum teams that are not able to produce Integrated Increments for more than 2 sprints? Also, the stakeholders are unhappy about this.  Should they do it by themselves considering an emergency mode to deliver an integrated increment or make Integration a point in DoD or any other options.

I'm not sure that it's possible to give a concrete answer without more detail. The Nexus Integration Team is accountable for ensuring that the Nexus produces at least one Integrated Increment each Sprint. I would want to better understand the problems that are being raised at the team's Daily Scrums, the Nexus Daily Scrum, the team Sprint Retrospectives, and the Nexus Sprint Retrospectives - understanding the issues that are preventing the teams and the Nexus from getting work done and integrated would be my first step. There could be additional actions for the Nexus Integration Team during the Sprint, changes to the Definition of Done, or other things that could happen.

If integration is failing that badly after just one Sprint, a better question might be how they should first help themselves. Integration is essential to Done. It is not some sort of trailing indicator sparked by woeful stakeholders.

Right now, when integration fails it doesn't look like the Nexus Integration Team can recognize this and handle the emergency at all. They are dropping the ball somewhere.

Hi Mahalakshmi, This question doesn't resemble a Scrum.org question. Is this from a third party training provider? Highly recommend leveraging Scrum.org learning path, Nexus guide and practice exams to prepare for SPS as it will be most accurate.

Ways the Nexus Integration Team (NIT) can help include coaching, consulting and making dependency and cross-team issues transparent. Keep in mind the NIT includes Developers from various teams in the Nexus. If an integrated increment cannot be created, each NIT member should have insights into why. Focus of Nexus Daily Scrum is integration issues and progress being made on Nexus Sprint Goal, so what might be missing to bring Transparency for integration issues so proper Inspection and Adaptation can occur in a timely manner?

The artifact is called Integrated Increment, which means integration has to be a part of DoD from the start. From the Nexus guide..

"The Increment is done only when integrated, valuable and useful."

Thanks Thomas Owens, Ian Mitchell and Ryan Kent for sharing your insights.

It was as part of a practice assessment question that I came across indeed. Unfortunately, there were no options related to inspect and adapt during the sprint. Additionally, I also missed to mention that the individual increments of the scrum teams were presented separately in different environments.
