There are 3 artifacts in the Scrum framework: Product Backlog, Sprint Backlog, and Increment.
We are used to seeing visualizations for the first two artifacts, Product Backlog and Sprint Backlog. But, how about the third one, Increment?!
If you think of it, you will see that it is possible to visualize it.
Scrum Guide says:
“Scrum’s artifacts represent work or value.”
“Each Increment is additive to all prior Increments.”
In fact, Increment is a list of all Done Product Backlog Items up to now. Whenever a PBI meets the Definition of Done, it becomes part of the Increment, and you are allowed to bring it to the Sprint Review to get feedback from stakeholders.
Now, imagine we want to create a board for the Increment to visualize it. The first column name would be “Done”.
When a PBI is done, it doesn’t mean it will be released to the customers immediately. So, the next column name would be Released. It means when you release a PBI, you drag it to this column.
These are the minimum two columns that you need to have in your Increment board. You can add more columns based on your context. Be creative.
Hopefully, you enjoyed it. Start using it to increase transparency in your team.
