Europeanscrum.org
Hi!
I am just curious if scrum.org is in any way affiliated with the organization europeanscrum.org
Their tests etc, assesments seem to be a carbon-copy of what scrum.org offers.
Any comment from anyone at scrum.org
Thank you for your inquiry. Scrum.org and European Scrum are separate organizations with different leadership and missions. Scrum.org is a global organization created in 2009 by Ken Schwaber, co-creator of Scrum and co-author of the Scrum Guide. Scrum.org’s assessments, certifications and courseware training materials are also separate and different from those of European Scrum. Scrum.org provides training materials that are highly-tuned and standardized to ensure that all students learn the same core course content from all Professional Scrum Trainers. Our assessments are globally recognized as an industry standard for Professional Scrum Certification.
As a note, if European Scrum, or any other organization were to copy Scrum.org's Professional Scrum assessment and/or courseware content, they would be in breach of our intellectual property.
We hope this information helps to clarify. Enjoy your day and best of luck on your journey with Scrum, Fredrik!
On the subject of IP, the site appears to be making use of the 12 star European flag, which I believe is the property of the Council of Europe and licensed to the EU and officially sanctioned affiliate bodies (though I may be wrong and I would be happy to be corrected). The site positions itself as "official" and, when I read it, I was surprised that a specific Scrum body might be thus affiliated. I was unable, however, to find any conclusive evidence of such an affiliation, and so the situation confuses me.
in 2025, the only European Commission supported Agile initiative is 'PM²-Agile', an an Agile extension of the European Project Management methodology PM².
I've downloaded the PM²-Agile Guide 3.0.1 and it looks more set to support 'Complecated' problems/solutions than 'Complex' problems/solutions.
To be honest, 'PM²' and 'PM²-Agile' seems to be a simplified version of the connection between 'Prince2' and 'Prince2 Agile'.
I'm just wondering how europeanscrum.org can visually give the illusion of being affiliated with the European Commission and not get sued into oblivion? There's nothing in the EU Funding & Tenders Portal for this company.
Let's practice reading 1-2-3
"European Scrum is a not-for-profit organisation limited by guarantee. Registered in Europe.
Breite Straße 22 Düsseldorf, Germany.
Calle de Méndez Álvaro, 20 - Madrid, Spain."
If they make their business legally then who cares?
Anyone can name their organization "european-xyz".
It's not about our reading comprehension, we already known that it is a legal organization with "European" in its name. That's not the problem at all.
It's about using a lot of foto's on their website of the European flag, European historical landmarks and European Union buildings that give the ILLUSION that they are connected to the European Institutes and provide a certification program that is sanctioned (and used) within the European Institutes.
Funny is that I can't find the official European Flag Icon on their website, only blue circle with 12 stars icons or European flag icons with a text in the 12 star circle.
The only European Commission sanctioned initiatives are PM² and PM²-Agile, yet The European Commission support the creation of competing methodologies through their "Co-funded by the XXXX Programme of the European Union" programme and you can put this text on your website (optional) together with the official 12 star European flag icon. Examples: P3.express by Erasmus+ Programme and FitSM by the FedDM Programme....and so on.
Hm, I did not know that, thanks for writing that.
Anyways I guess that illusions are OK-ish as long as it's not a misleading marketing or straight away impersonification.
I mean, take a look at Coca Cola copycats like Free Way Cola that is sold at LIDL. Looks sameish, also has a word Cola in it, not Kola or something like that.
But hey, I'm not a lawyer so I don't know.
On a humoristic note - one can ask - I am just curious if scrum.org is in any way affiliated with the organization https://www.world.rugby/
After all scrum is a Rugby game move so...
Haha
