Scrum.org Launches New Self-Paced Professional Scrum Product Owner™ Fundamentals Training Course

December 10, 2025

New course helps students understand the accountabilities of a Product Owner and prepare for the PSPO I certification

BOSTON - December 10, 2025 - Scrum.org, the Home of Scrum, today announced its new Professional Scrum Product Owner Fundamentals training course. In this online, self-paced course, students will learn about Product Owner fundamentals and how to balance vision, value and validation as well as leverage the Scrum framework to deliver valuable products. The course is for new and existing Product Owners, product managers, business analysts and those in related roles who are looking to improve their professional Product Ownership skills.

Throughout this course, the accountabilities of the Product Owner come alive by leveraging scenarios combined with interactive features including activities, videos and quizzes.  Professional Scrum Product Owner Fundamentals is highly recommended for people preparing to take the globally recognized Professional Scrum Product Owner I (PSPO I) certification test and includes an attempt at the test upon completion of the course.

Professional Scrum Product Owner Fundamentals explores the unique blend of skills and practices needed to lead with a customer focus while working with stakeholders and the Scrum Team to set and drive the product vision, strategy and goals.  During the course, students will learn from real scenarios, common pitfalls and concrete practices that will help them understand effective Product Ownership.

“We are very excited to announce our newest self-paced training - Professional Scrum Product Owner Fundamentals,” said Dave West, CEO, Scrum.org. “Being a Product Owner can be very overwhelming and complex with the ultimate focus of delivering valuable products to customers. This course allows students to learn about Product Ownership at their own pace and at a time that suits them. We understand that people learn in many different ways and look forward to adding more self-paced courses in the future.”

Students will develop a clear understanding of Product Owner fundamentals by balancing vision, value and validation: the core tenets of Product Ownership.

Upon taking this course, students will be able to:

  • Articulate the Product Owner’s accountabilities to maximize value through an outcomes-focused approach
  • Describe how a Product Owner uses a product vision to drive value delivery through strategy
  • Discuss the importance of customer and user engagement in helping a Product Owner pursue value and confirm direction
  • Explain how the Product Backlog reflects what the Product Owner considers valuable for the product
  • Summarize how empiricism and Scrum enable Product Owners to prioritize, make decisions and validate quickly
  • Recognize how a Product Owner collaborates with both stakeholders and the rest of the Scrum Team to maximize the value of their product

Professional Scrum Product Owner Fundamentals is delivered online at the student’s own pace and is a great complement to the Professional Scrum Product Owner live instructor-led course. Students can take it over a period of days, weeks or months, depending on what suits their availability and needs. It takes approximately 5.5 hours to complete.

This course helps students prepare for the PSPO I certification test. Students taking the Professional Scrum Product Owner Fundamentals course will receive a password to take the certification test upon completion of the course. Students can purchase and begin the new training course on the Scrum.org website.
