Video Application to Become a Professional Scrum Trainer

The Professional Scrum Trainer Application gives you an opportunity to tell us about your experience and motivations for becoming a PST training the Applying Professional Scrum (APS) course. People with applications that showcase the qualities we look for in a PST will be invited to participate in a PST Candidate Interview. Expect to receive feedback approximately two weeks after your application is submitted.

The PST Candidate Journey typically takes 1-2 years for well qualified applicants. We put specific focus and priority on candidates who contribute to the diversity of our community. If you do not bring characteristics that support this diversity, please be aware you may wait longer to enter the PST community.

If you have questions before submitting your application, please Contact Us and a member of the team will reach out to you.

Preparing your PST Application Video
  • Your video(s) must be in English and include five distinct sections, one for each item below. During your video, include a reference to the section you're about to start. Please read this section carefully.
    • Mechanical Scrum vs. Professional Scrum. In your own words, tell us the difference. Feel free to include an example if it helps. Your content in the rest of the sections should demonstrate you know the difference between the two. Maximum 2 minutes in total.
    • Depth of Scrum experience. Share 5-7 short but specific stories that show different ways you have met the prerequisite Professional Scrum experience for becoming a PST. Being concise is an important skill for a PST, so a maximum of 10 minutes total. In each story:
      • Briefly describe the situation, often a challenge your team faced.
      • Share what did you do about it? Be specific with one or two actions taken. Saying I coached the stakeholders to trust the Scrum Team is not specific enough.
      • Tell us what happened next? Often this is the action(s) taken by others.
      • What was the outcome and impact of any changes? In other words, why should we care about what action you took?
      • Connect the story to something you want students to learn in relation to Professional Scrum.
    • Greatest Scrum success story.  Use this section to show the value Scrum can bring to an organization and/or its customers. Maximum 3 minutes in total. Things to address:
      • 1) What was the starting point before the success?
      • 2) What were the results of the success, and how was this measured?
      • 3) How specifically did Scrum help enable this success? Include some detail here.
      • 4) What was your involvement in bringing this success about?
    • Describe your experience training others in a classroom setting. Include number of courses, topics, duration, whether in-person or online, and key techniques. Maximum 2 minutes in total. Sample answer: Delivered 10+ half-day Agile Fundamentals courses to 100+ students total. About half of these were in person. Delivered 5 one-day courses on x topic to 50 students total, virtually. Key techniques I use include….
    • Tell us why are you interested in becoming a PST. Briefly describe your motivations for becoming a PST. Maximum 2 minutes in total.
  • Tip: While you may be tempted to speak quickly to include more information, this is an opportunity to demonstrate your verbal communication skills. Speaking clearly and at a pace that others can easily follow will help reviewers understand what you are saying.
  • Tip: You do not need professional-quality video presentation skills. It's ok to use prepared notes and to refer to those notes as you record.
  • Tip: Preparing and using notes will help you stay inside your time box.

Once you have completed your video submission, use the text box at the bottom of the form to send us information on how to access your video.

Submissions with more than 20 total minutes of video content will not be accepted.
