Professional Scrum Product Owner

Zürich, March 21-22, 2024

Class Overview

The role of a Product Owner extends beyond mere requirement documentation or backlog management. It demands a comprehensive grasp of all facets of product management, particularly those aspects that ensure product value maximization.

The Professional Scrum Product Owner™ (PSPO) course, spanning two days, delves deeply into these components. It is designed for Product Owners, Agile product managers, and anyone vested in a product's market success. This intensive course aims to enhance participants' understanding of effective product ownership by combining theoretical knowledge with practical team exercises. Participants will gain a clearer understanding of their role's extensive responsibilities in delivering successful products from an Agile standpoint. Moreover, the course outlines specific metrics to monitor value creation and ensure the product's successful market delivery.

Scrum is an agile and iterative approach to project and product management that facilitates setting the right priorities, reducing project costs, and accelerating value creation. Its transparency, flexibility, and ability to deliver prompt, substantial results make it indispensable in many organizations.

Value Driven Development

The primary responsibility of a Product Owner is to enhance the value creation for the product they oversee. This involves a deep understanding of what drives value and how to maximize it through strategic decisions and prioritization.

Product Management

Agile product management diverges from traditional approaches by emphasizing flexibility, continuous feedback, and rapid adjustments to meet evolving customer needs and market conditions.

Managing Requirements

The Product Backlog is the fuel driving the development team forward, and managing it effectively is a key responsibility of the Scrum Product Owner. This involves prioritizing backlog items based on their value and ensuring clarity and understanding across the team.

Planning Releases

What characterizes a well-planned release? Why do we have releases, and what impact can a poorly planned release have on both the organization and its customers? Release planning is crucial for timing, market impact, and aligning product development with strategic goals.

Lean Planning

A release often represents the first step towards value creation. What better way to learn about a release than through direct experience? Lean planning emphasizes minimizing waste and learning from each release to improve processes and outcomes.

Managing Products

Understanding the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is fundamental for successful product management. Balancing the optimization of a release's value with the maximization of a product or system's asset value within an organization requires strategic thinking. This balance must fit into the existing product plan, and the development team's Definition of Done is crucial for ensuring quality and completeness in everything that is undertaken.
