Announcing the Product Owner Open assessment

August 28, 2015

The Scrum Guide begins the description of the role of the Product Owner as follows:

The Product Owner is responsible for maximizing the value of the product and the work of the Development Team.

How does a Product Owner do this? Which instruments does Scrum offer to achieve this? How can a Product Owner make good use of Scrum, empiricism and self-organizing Development Teams in creating valuable products? What attributes make for a good Product Owner?

PO_OpenThe Product Owner Open assessment is available to help. It is a quick test. It is free and open to anyone. You can use it to assess your views on and understanding of Product Ownership. Find the test at https://www.scrum.org/Assessments/Open-Assessments

Scrum.org creates assessments because we believe professionals should have the means to test and demonstrate their knowledge. Assessments are not intended to be easy and all-pass. Passing an assessment should be a credible indication that people have the knowledge they claim to have.

We believe that if you are in an organization using Scrum, you should understand the purpose of Scrum, its rules and roles, the principles against which they were created. If you are a Product Owner in Scrum, you should know how to use Scrum to drive great product development, how to provide leadership to self-organizing Development Teams, how to employ iterative-incremental progress, how to maximize value. Period. The Product Owner Open assessment is a start. Use it for your professional development.
