Recently I ran into a beautiful piece of text, written by Rachel Naomi Remin. In this text I read the following phrase: "Perhaps the secret of living well is not in having all the answers, but in pursuing unanswerable questions in good company" To me that is what life is all about, living with unanswerable questions. In daily life I see a lot of people searching for answers and it makes me think that people don't like questions, that they are trying to get rid of them. Finding an answer to a question is satisfying and not having the answer can be dissatisfying or even frustrating. I used to be like that too; always looking for answers. But that was a long time ago, now I don't mind not having the answer, I live my life with the knowledge that some questions do not have an answer. I see lot of Scrum Masters looking for answers, wanting to help people by taking over their problems, trying to solve them and falling into the 'resolving pitfall'. But as a Scrum Master you should not resolve questions and problems, you should reveal them. Give others the chance to learn and find their own solution (if there is one) and help them by asking powerful questions and see what happens if you just reveal. Be curious. And if holding back and keeping away from solving is hard to do, look in the mirror and ask yourself what your personal interest is in resolving? You might learn something about yourself. www.michelvandermeulen.com
