The empirical process—and its three pillars of transparency, inspection and adaptation—involves checking where you are at by doing something, seeing how you did compared to what you were trying to do, and devising and carrying out experiments (practicing, if you will) to try and get closer to your desired outcome. This is the process that Scrum is designed to take you through with its framework, and we’d be remiss if we did not apply this same process to our learning. Learning is after all a complex problem.

Why a good strategy is still needed with a good product.

As a minimalist framework, Scrum contains only what is needed. Every piece of the Scrum framework is there for a reason. When teams modify any part, they won’t get the full benefits of Scrum. In this article, we will discuss three of the worst Scrum “customizations.” Warning: don’t try these in your organization!

Agile micromanagement: A pseudo-commitment to agile principles only to be overridden whenever it seems beneficial from a stakeholder’s or manager’s perspective.

„Wie kann ich mich auf die PSM-3-Prüfung vorbereiten?“ Diese Frage erreicht mich in letzter Zeit häufig über LinkedIn. Die meisten erwarten nun eine einfache Antwort auf diese einfache Frage. Am liebsten noch in Form eines Kochrezepts. Bereite X vor, füge Y hinzu, dreimal umrühren und einmal aufkochen et voilà. Fertig ist das PSM-3-Zertifikat. Vor einigen Jahren habe ich die PSM-3-Prüfung mit mehr als 90 % bestanden. Ich kann dir versichern: So einfach ist das nicht. Ein Kochrezept, welches jeden befähigt, die Prüfung auf Anhieb zu bestehen, gibt es nicht. Schaue ich aber auf meine Lernreise zurück, so kann ich drei Säulen erkennen, die mir geholfen haben, erfolgreich zu sein. Diese Säulen möchte ich in diesem Artikel auch mit dir teilen:

With burnout always lurking around the corner for Product Owners, how do we identify areas of growth for ourselves?

Produktive Scrum Events, die sich mühelos anfühlen, passieren nicht einfach so. Sie werden situativ aus einzelnen, kleinen Bausteinen zusammengesetzt. Erfahrene Scrum Master bedienen sich dabei an ihrer Toolbox von Facilitation-Methoden und -Techniken, die sie über die Jahre mühevoll gesammelt und zusammengestellt haben.Damit du dir als angehender Scrum Master Zeit ersparen kannst, stelle ich dir meinen grundlegenden Methodenkasten vor:

Facilitieren ist ein schwieriges Wort. Es impliziert so viel und deshalb ist es schwierig, genau festzulegen, was gute „Facilitation“ eigentlich ausmacht. Komplexe Arbeit verläuft in den seltensten Fällen wie geplant. Scrum Master facilitieren die Arbeit des Teams, damit sie das Wesentliche nicht aus den Augen verlieren: die Erreichung des Sprint-Ziels und Erstellung eines Inkrements. Facilitieren bedeutet also, die Zusammenarbeit für das Team zu vereinfachen und zu erleichtern. In folgendem Beitrag erfährst du, was guten Facilitator auszeichnet:

Scrum Master zu sein, ist nicht einfach. Wir sollen dem Team helfen, die Theorie hinter Scrum zu verstehen, die Mitglieder des Teams in Selbstmanagement coachen, Hindernisse aus dem Weg räumen, die die Entwicklungsgeschwindigkeit verlangsamen, und vor allem das Unternehmen so verändern, dass es von agilem Arbeiten profitieren kann. Wir sollen der Change Agent sein! So die Theorie. In der Praxis stellst du dir wahrscheinlich jetzt die Frage: „Wie fange ich damit bloß an?“ Als ich vor 8 Jahren angefangen habe, in Scrum Teams zu arbeiten, hätte ich mir folgenden Ratschlag gewünscht: Investiere deine Zeit in die Facilitation eines effektiven Sprint Reviews. Du bist auf einem verlorenen Posten, wenn du Veränderung im Unternehmen allein vorantreiben musst. Ein gut begleitetes Sprint Review stellt einen riesigen Hebel dar, um die Vorzüge agilen Produktmanagements im ganzen Unternehmen hochzuhalten. Im Folgenden findest du meine 4 Fragen, die ich nutze, um ein effektives Sprint Review zu moderieren.

Effektiv arbeitende Teams erwecken den Anschein, dass sich die Teammitglieder blind verstehen. Das liegt nicht daran, dass die Teammitglieder auf telepathischem Weg kommunizieren, sondern daran, dass sie gelernt haben, was sie voneinander erwarten können. Eine Grundlage für eine hochperformante Arbeitsweise stellen Working Agreements dar. Sie machen explizit, was es bedeutet, sich wie blind zu verstehen. Can Scrum be used outside software development? Absolutely.

I hear the word “commitment” used in problematic and misleading ways all the time. This is true when I am teaching Professional Scrum classes and even when I am coaching good Scrum Masters. It often sounds like one of these statements: How do we know how much work to commit to? How do we make sure we will finish all of the scope we committed to for this release? What happens if we don’t meet our commitment date? The problem is that the word commitment has been MISUNDERSTOOD in organizations to mean a guarantee or promise related to delivery. And that is NEVER what the word meant in the context of Scrum.

Want to pass the PSM I? Hint… You have to study. Memorizing the rules alone won’t cut it and you won’t be able to Google your way to a certificate. The key to passing is truly understanding Scrum. When will Scrum die? Some people would say it's already dying. There's so much inauthentic, Scrum being done, unprofessional, Scrum being done in the world. Whereas Scrum is part of what I call water Scrum fall, where it's put within a predictive deterministic system. We're predicting when work will be finished. When actually we’ve got so much work that where we don't know, what we don't know, that's really unauthentic. I see in those situations where the concept of done isn't even a concept there They think that done means we met the acceptance criteria when actually it's almost like the checklist for how we do things around here, the technical standards and the product quality standards, international standards, for example, that we might need to comply with.
